Darius Rucker is a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He first gained popularity as the frontman of the band Hootie & the Blowfish. After the band's hiatus in 1998, Darius shifted to his solo career. Dabbling in many genres during his solo stint, he has released albums in R&B and country. He reached his fullest potential as a musician in the country, receiving acclaim and accolades throughout the years.
Darius was among the founders of Hootie & the Blowfish when it was established in 1986. As it slowly gained traction, so as his baritone voice, which was called by Time magazine "low, gruff, [and} charismatic." Even after his solo career brought him exponential success, his loyalty to the band remained. His solo career came after the decade-long hiatus of the band. At first, he decided to do R&B but was unsuccessful. Six years later, he moved on to the country scene, signing with Capitol Records Nashville. His first country single, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," indicated his big chances of succeeding in the scene. His five albums would then become country hits; "Learn to Live" (2008), "Charleston, SC 1966" (2010), "True Believers" (2013), "Southern Style" (2015), and "When Was the Last Time" (2017).
On his "Starting Fire" tour this year, Darius Rucker will be performing at the Harveys Outdoor Arena on Saturday, August 19. Opening for him will be the quartet country band Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, best known for their songs "Family" and "Fire and Dynamite."
